Prior to having a baby I didn't really understand what all the fuss was about regarding "wearing your baby". I knew I'd want to cuddle and love him but I didn't know how often I would actually, physically, be wearing him (or how much this would benefit my day to day productivity!).
A good friend gave us her Baby Bjorn. At the time we thanked her, not knowing just how thankful we'd really end up being. If you are expecting your first baby (or your second or third) and haven't yet experienced the magic that is the Baby Bjorn I highly recommend you get one, or a similar product that allows you to wear your baby!
When Finn was really little he liked to fall asleep to movement. Sometimes it was the only way to get his final nap in each day. I know a moving nap isn't the same in terms of its restorative effects for a baby as a nap in a crib. But at some point a nap of any kind is still a nap! I would strap Finn in and walk on the treadmill while he slept (winter baby... treadmill was better than trudging outside through the snow).
Now that Finn has truly "embraced" the witching hour before he goes to bed we find using the Baby Bjorn and walking around the block or even around the house is a great way to help calm him down (and also give him some exciting and varied scenery to take in).
This is one piece of baby equipment I really didn't think I'd use. But now I use it EVERY DAY.
And you may wonder, why the Baby Bjorn and not something else? (on top of the fact that the Baby Bjorn was generously gifted to us)
Well really, it comes down to comfort. I got myself a wrap style carrier and found I didn't use it because I was never confident that I had him in it securely. And I haven't found a sling I liked either. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a klutz so I didn't like that Finn's safety was dependant on my knotting and wrapping skills...
So, I've always felt comfortable with the Baby Bjorn from day one. I like how it fits around my back and that the straps are padded for extra comfort. It's easy to click the baby in when I'm by myself which is handy too. I also like how much it grows with the baby and that I have gotten consistent use out of it for six months (which is like years because of how quickly babies can grow out of things). I can't imagine not having the Baby Bjorn and love how it has helped up show Finn the world and calm him down during his fussy times.
To all the moms out there - how do/did you wear your babies? What's a product you didn't realize you couldn't live without until you started using it?
I love to cook, entertain, craft and create - all while being a wife, friend, daughter and a mom to a little boy.
