I have exciting news. It is almost warm. Well, to better set expectations, there is almost not windchill, which basically means it is tropical out. To help better set the mood for Spring, I have been filling my home with flowers.
When I purchase plants/flowers I have to categories: 1) pretty ones you may toss out when they get close to dying 2) ones that don't need me and let me leave them alone.
The first sign of spring to me is always when tulips arrive in the market. Those first bright colours give me hope that very shortly, warm weather will be here. Another perk of tulips is that they tend to be cost effective and come in a variety of colours to spice up your home.
My Mom has always said that a penny in your vase will help your tulips stand up - and I'm not sure if it is just because my mom told me it was so that I believe it, but I have to admit that I do find my tulips look perkier with a penny in the water.
Unfortunately, Canada no longer has pennies, so I have scoured every seat cushion looking for pennies to keep my flowers beautiful. So tip: keep your pennies - they're not just for thoughts. Now I have reviewed the internet, and OI have to say, some people do NOT believe the power of the penny. At the end of the day - it doesn't really matter, a long as you enjoy your flowers that what counts.
Another way I keep my flowers fresh is with sugar or flower food. I find that it really helps keep my flowers fresh. That and chaining the water - a little step that goes a long way. Just don't forget, when you change the water - add some more food, those flowers are hungry.
What do you do to brighten your days during Spring? Fresh flowers? Spring Cleaning? I' d love to hear from you!
I love to cook, entertain, craft and create - all while being a wife, friend, daughter and a mom to a little boy.
