This past week was a hard one in our house, I lost my Grandma, Finnley's Gran. Though she was in her nineties, her passing was still a surprise. I suppose by now I just assumed I would just always be fortunate enough to have her in my life, though I know that's not realistic.
My Grandma had a sense of humour, a sarcastic wit and a lot of love. I have many fond memories from being a small kid and having sleepovers, to going shopping for her outfit for my wedding, to lunches at Swiss Chalet, and introducing her to Finnley. I'm so lucky I got to have her for so long and I will miss her dearly.
Losing her made me think of my own Mom and Finn and how I hope that they get to enjoy the same depth in their relationship that I had with my Grandma.
When I was little I told my grandma that I loved her "Up to God and down to the subway", which at the time were the highest and deepest points my little mind knew. Sine then I have left her little notes with that message every time I visit.
So, for the last time:
Grandma, I love you up to God and down to the subway.
I love to cook, entertain, craft and create - all while being a wife, friend, daughter and a mom to a little boy.
